Skiffle has too small a place in the histories of music. Thinking to redress this balance I turned to a song my own daddy-o was wont to sing. What you hear here is a rendering of the Lonnie Donegan version. It was the beginning of something, as evidenced by the two other versions in this small collection.
lyrics
Me and my brother was going to town
Sing away, ladies, sing away
Riding a billy goat, leading a hound
Sing away, ladies, sing away
Hound dog bark, billy goat jump,
Sing away, ladies, sing away
Throwed my brother right over that stump
Sing away, ladies, sing away
Chorus:
Don't you rock me Daddy-O
Don't you rock me Daddy-O
Don't you rock me Daddy-O
Don't you rock me Daddy-O
My old aunty promised me
Sing away, ladies, sing away
When she died she'd will to me
Sing away, ladies, sing away
Lived so long, head got bald
Sing away, ladies, sing away
Got out the notion of dying at all.
Sing away, ladies, sing away
Chorus
