If a folksong might be defined as a song with no definitive version then there can be no cover versions of it. Alternatively, all folk songs are cover versions. Both are valid positions. This version of the 'Daddy-O' template began when I played a wrong chord and the tune took an unexpected turn. It continued when Angeline suggested we rewrite the verses, locating the action in our shared homeland, Birmingham.
lyrics
Me and my brother on a bus to town
Fox & Goose and a half a crown
Goose cub fight and foxling fuss
Chuck my brother right off that bus
O don't you rock me daddio
Don't you rock me daddio
O don't you rock me daddio
Don't you rock me daddio
My old granny with the long black teeth
She was sitting up a tree in Washwood Heath
Police come to hose her down
Chase her all the way to Stechford town
O don't you rock me daddio
Don't you rock me daddio
O don't you rock me daddio
Don't you rock me daddio
Brother come home with blistered feet
Face as long as Livery Street
O don't you rock me daddio
Don't you rock me daddio
O don't you rock me daddio
Don't you rock me daddio
O don't you rock me daddio
Don't you rock me daddy
O don't you rock me daddio
Don't you rock me dad
